Reaching episode 20 and experiencing the second season intro music of Death Note was almost as incongruous as Light's complete personality change after his mindwipe.
I actually enjoyed Death Note via manga. Translated manga. (This surprised me rather a lot, actually.) I got sort of weird with it after the manga that matches up to (checking episode summary guide) anime episode 25 for reasons that are bloody obvious once you've seen that episode. I have the manga up to ten or eleven, though, should you be interested in an inter-library loan effort. It really is lovely.
I... just saw that episode. I should have known when they opened with bells and cathedrals that it was going nowhere good... (remember seeing Cowboy Bebop #5 at the (?Philcon?), with Spike falling out the stained glass window? Stained glass in anime can only mean "turbulence ahead"...)
It has put me in such a mood. Like when you finish a really cathartic book, and close it, and wander around in a daze. I'm stopping at 25 for tonight. Let the shenanigans resume tomorrow.
Re: manga - yeah, after I watched Ep. 1 I started reading fanscans online, and was not able to stop when I wanted to... so I stayed away from manga for now and consumed via video. But I do mean to read the manga (it might have more goodies!) ILL would be nice. I doubt I can still afford the nihongo version, sadly, as I'd have liked to see that too.
